£2 Bus Fare Cap in the Western Isles

Bus travel in the Western Isles, including the Isle of Barra, is currently part of the Scottish Government’s £2 Bus Fare Cap Pilot.

The scheme means that single bus fares are capped at a maximum of £2, making it cheaper and easier for residents and visitors to travel by bus around the islands. The pilot is part of a wider initiative to improve access to public transport across rural and island communities.

The cap applies to single journeys only and runs for a limited pilot period. Return tickets, day passes, and concessionary travel schemes remain unchanged.

Please note that the fare cap does not apply to services travelling from Eriskay to Berneray.

For passengers, there’s nothing extra to do, simply just pay for your ticket as normal and the fare will be capped at £2 on participating services.
