Hebrides International Film Festival

The Hebrides International Film Festival will be on in Castlebay on the 25th and 26th September. There is a selection of 6 films accompanied by shorts.


To a land Unknown (2pm on Thursday 25th) is a drama about displaced Palestinian refugees who are trying to escape Athens on fake passports. It is a desperate situation they are trying to escape before it is too late.


Escape from Extinction: Rewilding (5:30pm on Thursday 25th) is a documentary about global experts trying to save species from extinction in and trying to restore whole ecosystems from cloud forests of Rwanda to the California Coast. This film is followed by a Q&A session.


The final film on Thursday is A Complete Unknown (7:30pm on Thursday 25th). The film documents the start of Bob Dylans career and his rise to fame.


On Friday 26th at 2pm there is From Ground Zero, a compilation of 22 short films from talented filmmakers in Gaza. It was the winner of the Cinema for Peace Award 2025.


A great After school film - Wild Robot is on at 4:30pm on Friday. It is the story of a Robot who has been shipwrecked and must adapt to its surroundings, building relationships with other animals and becoming the adoptive parent of a gosling.


The final film of the Festival in Castlebay is Small Things Like These (7pm on Friday 26th). Adapted by Enda Walsh from the 2021 novel by Claire Keegan, in 1985 coal merchant Bill Furlong uncovers disturbing secrets in a small Irish town that’s controlled by the Roman Catholic Church. The film is in Irish Gaelic with English subtitles.
